形态描述：藤本，长可达7米或更长；枝具皱纹状条纹，被糙毛状柔毛。叶片纸质，卵圆状心形或阔卵状心形，长9-18厘米，宽8-16厘米，顶端骤渐尖，基部常深心形，弯缺圆，后裂片常叉开，圆或短尖，边全缘或偶有3裂，两面被柔毛，通常背面较密，或有时腹面仅脉上有毛；掌状脉5-7，中脉两侧各有2-3条侧脉，连同网脉均在背面凸起；叶柄基部稍肿胀且微旋扭，有条纹，毛被与小枝同，长8-15毫米。圆锥花序很长，通常30余厘米，有时达45-50厘米，分枝疏散，被稍密的糙毛状柔毛，雄花：萼片自外至内渐大，除最内轮外背面均被柔毛，最外轮长1 (-1.5) 毫米，中轮长2 (-2.5) 毫米，内轮长2.5 (-3.3) 毫米，最内轮的明显内凹，微透明，长约3 (3.5) 毫米，宽约2毫米；花瓣6，淡黄色，长约2毫米，宽约1-1.5毫米；聚药雄蕊长约2.5毫米。雌花未见（参阅属之记载）。果序稍粗壮，被糙毛状柔毛，果梗长1-1.5厘米，顶端肿大或头状；核果椭圆形，长约2厘米，成熟时红色；果核长1.2-1.6厘米。花期4-5月，果期9-10月。
